Core sampling is an effective method of determining how much moisture is trapped within your commercial roofing system, and even though it’s an intrusive roof surveying technique you will be left with no damage after completion.
Roof surveys such as this are useful in many different situations and can offer a definitive answer as to the state of your roofing system. If you are concerned about how your roof has held up through a recent storm or inclement weather, a core sampling will give you a firm answer.
The Core Sampling Process
The process of core sampling is typically used on flat roofs to visually confirm and examine areas of suspected moisture. These areas might be obvious due to water ingress within the building, or they may have been detected using a moisture scanning technique, but regardless of why they must always be conducted by qualified commercial roofing contractors to fully maintain the integrity of your roof.
Samples of your roof will be neatly cut out in areas of dry, medium and heavy moisture presence using a specialist cutting tool appropriate for your roof’s material. The roof will be penetrated through the membrane down to the deck in a cut between 4 and 12 inches in size, and each sample will be taken away in an airtight container for scientific analysis.
Using advanced technological equipment and laboratory-standard testing procedures we are then able to provide highly accurate information about the exact moisture content of your roof. Once we’ve identified the current situation we’ll inform you of your roof’s future outlook, and offer a range of appropriate responses based upon our findings.
After core sampling has been completed
Each sample site is then sealed and made completely watertight, with core sampling areas taking no more than an hour from the first cut to the final patching.
As professional industrial roofing contractors we will always advise you on the best course of action for your situation, and we have a range of techniques on offer to accurately and honestly diagnose your roof’s condition whatever circumstance you find yourself in.
